What You Need To Know About Sinks

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SINKS

To make the kitchen of your dreams

To figure out what sink you want for your kitchen, you need to know three things: What type of sink do you want?  Do you want a single, double, or triple bowl? What type of faucet do you want?

Drop In Sinks

Drop in sinks are dropped into the hole in your kitchen countertop or bathroom vanity. They come in porcelain, enameled cast iron, vitreous china, or stainless steel. They have the option to be ordered in single bowl, double bowl, or even triple bowl! Drop in sinks are offered in the lowest price range of all sink types. Some say that they are harder to clean around, but the price different makes up for the small inconvenience. These sinks range in price anywhere fro, $50-$275.

Farmhouse Sinks

Farmhouse sinks, also known as Apron sinks, are designed to withstand a lot of use and abuse in a highly used kitchen. It comes in white, ceramic, fire-clay model, stainless steel, or copper. A lot of cabinet lines don't carry the sink base required for this sink, so your cabinet options with this sink are less expansive than your options with other sinks. As for the price range, this sink is at the top of the line right now. Because it is highly desired, these sinks are usually priced around $600 and up.

Under mount Sinks

Under mount sinks are mounted below the countertop for a seamless finish. Many people fear that they will begin to absorb water but they are actually sealed very well and should last a long time. Most under mount sinks are stainless steel, but they are also available in other options such as copper. They come in single, double, or even triple bowls. These sinks range anywhere from $95-$300.

Composite Sinks

Composite sinks are extremely durable. They have a very high scratch, heat, and chip resistance. These sink types are available in a wide variety of colors. Composite sinks are composed of materials such as granite or quartz. The sink to the right is a black granite composite sink that has a copper finish. They can be under mount, farmhouse, or drop in. They range in price from $200-$600 because they are made out of really nice long lasting material.

Bar Sinks

Bar sinks are known for their ease of access and making your life easier. Once someone has one, they often wonder how they aver lived without it. Bar sinks are available in nearly an size, model, or finish. As you can see, the bar sink to the left is made for the average martini lover. Other common shapes would just be a small square, or an elongated rectangle. These sinks get filled with ice and beverages to make it easy for your party guests to grab a drink!

Cast Iron Sinks

Cast Iron sinks are durable and long lasting, which is why they have been a top choice for customers for decades. They are available in a wide array of colors. They are often used in kitchens, laundry rooms, and even bathrooms. Cast Iron sinks are usually found in the drop in style or the farmhouse style. Cast Iron sinks have the ability to offer the perfect vintage or modern look in any room, depending on the style you choose. They range anywhere from $200-$700.

So, now that you know what types of sinks you have to choose from, you are off to a start. The next thing to figure out is what size sink you will need. I am going to go with an under mount sink because I like the low prices. I have a 36" sink base, so I have nearly no limits to what size sink I can have. I want a double bowl, even 50/50, and I'm choosing to get a 33". 50/50 means that both of the bowls will be the same size. Other common bowls would be 40/60 or 60/40. I also prefer the single handle pull down faucet. To learn more about our faucets, visit our blog again and I will be posting different options soon!
